HEADLESS
SEARCH
ENGINE
Lightning-fast search that works everywhere. One index, every channel
The API-first search engine built for headless commerce. Deliver blazing-fast product search, intelligent autocomplete, and faceted navigation across your web storefront, mobile apps, voice assistants, and beyond – from a single unified index.

What sets Quarticon’s headless search engine apart
Headless commerce lets you run unlimited frontends from a single commerce platform. Your search engine should work the same way. Instead of embedding search logic into each storefront, deploy once and serve all your channels. Traditional database searches are slow, rigid, and built for a single storefront. Headless commerce demands something better: a dedicated search engine that serves all your channels with sub-100ms latency, intelligent ranking, and omnichannel insights.
Faster Search Experiences
Database queries take 500ms–2s. Users abandon searches before results load. Conversion rates drop 10–15% for every second of latency.
Purpose-built search index delivers results in <100ms. Instant typing experience. Higher engagement and sales.
Better Search Relevance
Generic keyword matching shows irrelevant results. Users find what they want in 3rd or 4th try. Long-tail customers never find niche products
Machine learning-powered ranking understands intent, popularity, margins, and inventory. Smarter results, higher conversion.
Omnichannel Experiecne
Search built into your storefront only works on web. Mobile app needs its own search logic. Email search is impossible.
One unified index serves web, app, voice, email, social. Consistent results everywhere.
What Sets Quarticon AI Search Apart
Lightning-fast mobile search
Mobile users receive instant results with images, prices, and reviews before leaving the store.
No waiting for loading. No scrolling. Just pure conversions.
Catch the user within 3 seconds
Convert every visit
Smart autocomplete, contextual suggestions, and backup results ensure everyone finds what they need or something even better.
No more lost sales.
No more wasted traffic
Mastery in niches
Contextual search rich in parameters understands niche specifics. “Organic cotton nursing bras” returns exactly those products, not general matches.
Specialist categories gain visibility.
Demand and inventory management
Excess stock sells faster. Fast-moving products highlight limited availability. Stock shortages trigger smart alternatives.
Inventory starts generating revenue instead of piling up and being a hindrance.
Turn inventory into revenue. Smartly.
Forgiving user errors
Typos don’t eliminate results. Synonyms and abbreviations work. Natural language queries work correctly.
Customers find what they want—regardless of how they search.
Let your products be found, even with misspellings
Insight into customer needs
See customer queries, searches returning 0 results, and keywords driving sales.
Finally, understanding customers instead of guessing.
Search analysis that truly works.
How headless search engine works
Connect Your Data Sources
Integrate your product catalog (SKU, title, description, price, attributes) from your commerce platform, PIM system, or data warehouse. Real-time sync keeps the search index fresh. Updates live in seconds, not hours.
Index Instantly
Products are indexed and searchable immediately. Our distributed index replicates across global data centers. No waiting for batch jobs or nightly rebuilds.
Search with Intelligence
Your frontend calls our API with a search query. Our engine returns ranked, relevant results in <100ms—considering popularity, margins, inventory, user behavior, and personalization rules. Typos are forgiven; synonyms are understood.
Smart Autocomplete
As users type, deliver instant search suggestions (query autocomplete) and product recommendations (product autocomplete). Learns from your customers’ actual search patterns.
Navigate with Facets
Users refine with filters: price, brand, color, size, rating. Facet counts update in real-time as filters are applied. No lag.
Learn and Optimize
Track what users search for, what they click, and what converts. Use these insights to tune ranking, identify content gaps, and understand customer intent.
Headless Search Engine’s Features
API-First Architecture
REST APIs let any frontend—web app, native mobile, email service, even IoT devices—request recommendations. Language-agnostic, deployment-agnostic.
Sub-100ms Search Latency
Purpose-built search index optimized for speed, not analytical queries. Results delivered in under 100 milliseconds from any geography. Instant typing experience that users expect.
Intelligent Ranking & Relevance
Beyond simple keyword matching. Our ML-powered ranking considers:
Seasonal trends
User intent and query context
Product popularity and velocity
Margins and business rules
Inventory availability
Customer behavior signals
Typo Tolerance & Fuzzy Matching
Users misspell queries; we still find what they’re looking for. “Bleu chees” finds blue cheese. “Runnign shoes” finds running shoes. No results lost to typos.
Synonym Management
Define custom synonyms for your business. “Running shoe” = “trainers” = “sneakers”. Manage via dashboard or API.
Faceted Navigation
Dynamic filtering by price, brand, color, size, rating, category, and custom attributes. Facet counts update in real-time as users refine.
Autocomplete & Search Suggestions
Two types of autocomplete:
- Query autocomplete: Suggest search terms based on what users typically search for
- Product autocomplete: Show matching products as users type
Learn from your customers’ actual search patterns. Personalize suggestions per user.
Multi-Language Support
Index and search across 50+ languages. Stemming, accent-insensitive matching, and language-specific ranking built-in.
Merchandise & Merchandising Rules
Boost or bury products for specific searches:
- “Running shoe” → boost Nike, bury competitor brands
- “Summer dresses” → boost inventory items on clearance
- “Gaming laptop” → prioritize high-margin SKUs
Update rules anytime without reindexing.
Personalization at Scale
Tailor search results per user:
- Return products in customers’ preferred brands first
- Surface items similar to their purchase history
- Boost products they’ve viewed but didn’t buy yet
- Price results by their customer segment
All without slowing down search latency.
Analytics & Insights Dashboard
Real-time visibility into:
- Top searches and search volume trends
- Click-through rates per search
- Conversion rates per query
- Zero-result searches (content gaps)
- Search funnel analysis
- A/B test results
Identify opportunities to improve catalog and ranking.
A/B Testing
Test ranking strategies, merchandising rules, and autocomplete variations. Route users to test variant; measure impact on CTR, conversion, and revenue.

Headless search engine use cases
E-Commerce Storefront
Your React storefront has a search bar, but results take 800ms to load because it queries your main database. Users abandon searches. Category browsing drives more traffic than search.
The Solution: Replace database queries with API calls to our search engine. Same search bar, instant results (<100ms). ML ranking surfaces better products. Customers find what they want faster.
Additional Benefit: Analytics show you what customers search for. “Waterproof jacket” is searched 500x/month but converts at 2%. This signals a catalog gap or ranking problem you can fix.
Result: 25–40% increase in search conversion rate; 15–20% increase in search traffic as users trust search more.
Mobile App Search
Mobile search is clunky. Small keyboards make typing hard. Users need instant autocomplete and fast results. But building a mobile-optimized search infrastructure is expensive.
The Solution: iOS/Android app calls the same search API as your web storefront. We handle the backend; your app handles the UX. Autocomplete fires on every keystroke. Results appear in <100ms.
Mobile-Specific Benefits:
- Smaller result sets by default (faster parsing on mobile networks)
- Simplified facet UX for small screens
- Integration with mobile analytics
Result: Search becomes a primary discovery method on mobile (not just homepage browsing).
Voice Search & Smart Speakers
Voice assistants (Alexa, Google Home) can’t query your database directly. Building voice search from scratch requires speech recognition, NLP, and conversational logic.
The Solution: Your voice skill/action calls our API with the user’s voice-transcribed query. We return top 3 results with rich metadata. Voice app formats the response naturally.
Example: “Alexa, search my store for waterproof jackets under $100.” → Our API returns ranked results in <100ms → Alexa reads results aloud.
Result: New discovery channel; voice commerce grows 3–5x faster than you expect.
Multi-Brand / Multi-Store Enterprise
You operate 10 storefronts (different brands, regions, languages). Each needs its own search index with its own ranking and merchandising rules. Managing 10 separate search systems is a nightmare.
The Solution: Deploy separate search engine instances per brand/region. Unified API layer means your engineering team integrates once; each index is independent.
Result: Brand autonomy; zero data leakage; scale to dozens of storefronts.
Marketplace / Seller-Generated Content
Third-party sellers add products constantly. Your search index can’t keep up. New products aren’t searchable for hours.
The Solution: Sellers’ product updates flow directly to our index via API or webhook. Indexed in seconds. Sellers can track their own search analytics.
Result: Real-time marketplace experience; sellers happier; better customer experience.

FAQ
How is this different from just querying our database or building search with Elasticsearch?
The Problem with Database Queries
Your product database (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or whatever you use) is optimized for transactional queries, not search. When a user types “blue running shoes,” your database searches through millions of product records, matching keywords in title and description. This takes 500ms–2 seconds. By then, your user has moved on or tried a competitor’s site.
Additionally, database search doesn’t understand relevance. It returns results based on exact matches or basic keyword scoring. A product titled “Running Shoes Blue Men’s Nike” might rank below “Blue Shoes” just because of word order. No intelligence about what customers actually want.
The Problem with Elasticsearch
Elasticsearch is powerful, but it’s a data warehouse. You have to manage it yourself: provision servers, configure clusters, handle sharding, optimize queries, upgrade versions, debug performance issues. Building production search on Elasticsearch requires:
- DevOps expertise to run it reliably
- Search engineers to tune relevance
- Monitoring and alerting infrastructure
- Scaling logic as your catalog grows
- Security hardening to prevent leaks
Most teams underestimate the operational overhead. A small team managing Elasticsearch often spends 30–40% of engineering time on search infrastructure instead of product features.
Our Approach: We’ve already solved the operational and relevance problems for you. We maintain the infrastructure, scale it globally, and provide intelligent ranking out-of-the-box.
| Aspect | Database Search | Elasticsearch (Self-Managed) | Quarticon Search |
|---|---|---|---|
| Latency | 500ms–2s | 100–300ms (if tuned well) | <100ms guaranteed |
| Relevance | Basic keyword matching | Good (requires tuning) | Excellent (ML-powered, learns from your data) |
| Operations | Easy initially, breaks at scale | Complex, requires DevOps | Fully managed, you don’t maintain it |
| Scaling | Expensive queries at scale | Requires cluster management | Auto-scales transparently |
| Global Performance | Single region | Must replicate manually | Multiple global edge locations |
| Ranking Customization | Limited | Possible but complex | Simple dashboard, no code |
| Analytics | You build it | You build it | Real-time dashboard included |
| Typo Tolerance | No, unless you build it | Possible but requires tuning | Built-in, learns from your searches |
| Autocomplete | No, unless you build it | Requires separate systems | Native autocomplete engine |
| A/B Testing | No, unless you build it | Complex to implement | Built-in, click a button |
How do we keep the search index in sync with our product catalog? What if we have thousands of products changing daily?
If your inventory updates but search results are stale, customers see out-of-stock products or miss new arrivals. Manual reindexing (rebuild the entire search index nightly) causes hours of stale data. Real-time sync is essential but complex.
How We Solve It: Real-Time API Updates (Fastest) Every time a product changes in your commerce platform, push an update to us immediately.
Product is indexed within 500ms. New inventory levels, prices, and availability are reflected in search immediately.
Scheduled Batch Sync (Flexible) If you prefer, sync your entire catalog once daily or every hour. We pull from your API or database, diff against the current index, and update only what changed. Full catalog syncs take seconds, even for 1M+ products.
Webhook Integration (Automatic) If your commerce platform (Shopify, BigCommerce, SAP) sends webhooks when products change, we can listen directly:
- Product created → indexed immediately
- Product price changed → updated in index
- Inventory changed → search facets update
- Product deleted → removed from index
Inventory Management Out-of-stock handling is configurable:
- Option 1: Don’t show out-of-stock products in search
- Option 2: Show them at the bottom of results with a “notify me” button
- Option 3: Show them but with a “coming soon” badge
You decide based on your business strategy.
What About Historical Data? If you’re switching from another search system, we can backfill historical data: bulk import your entire catalog in one go. Then set up real-time sync for ongoing updates. First import takes 15–30 minutes for 500K products; after that, only changes are synced.
How much does search performance actually impact conversion and revenue? How do we measure success?
Slow search kills conversion. Studies show:
- Every 100ms of latency increase = 1% conversion loss
- Users who search convert 2–3x better than category browsers (if search is good)
- Poor search results → users try a different site
Our customers typically see these improvements:
| Metric | Typical Lift | Range |
|---|---|---|
| Search Conversion Rate | +25–40% | 15–50% depending on baseline |
| Search Traffic Volume | +15–25% | More users trust search when it’s fast and relevant |
| Average Order Value from Search | +5–12% | Better ranking = better products suggested = higher spend |
| Overall Site Conversion Rate | +8–15% | Search is usually 20–30% of conversions; improving search lifts total |
| Reduction in “No Results” Searches | 60–80% | From 2–3% down to 0.3–0.5% |
| Autocomplete Adoption | 50–70% | Of search sessions use suggested terms; huge time saver |
You can track anything: wishlist adds, email signups, loyalty program joins, category sales mix. Tag them as custom conversion events; we’ll show you how search impacts them.
Can we customize ranking and search behavior to match our business needs? (Boost certain products, bury competitors, seasonal rules, etc.)
Yes, unlimited customization. No coding required for many use cases.
Here’s What You Can Do:
- Merchandising Rules (Boost/Bury Products)
- Example 1: Seasonal Merchandising; During Q4 (holidays), you want to boost gift sets and bundles: IF season = “Q4” AND category = “gifts”THEN boost(weight = 1.5)
- Example 2: Inventory-Based Merchandising; You have overstock of winter coats from last season. Boost them during clearance: IF inventory > 500 AND price < cost * 1.2 THEN boost(weight = 1.3)
- Example 3: Margin-Based Ranking; Your electronics have 5–30% margins. Boost high-margin items: IF margin > 25% THEN boost(weight = 1.2)
- Example 4: Bury Competitor Products; You sell electronics. You don’t want to show competitor brands prominently (you just stock them as filler). Bury them: IF brand IN [“Competitor_A”, “Competitor_B”]THEN bury(weight = 0.5)
- Ranking Customization (Adjust the Algorithm). Our default ranking considers:
- Relevance (40%): How well does the product match the search query?
- Popularity (30%): Sales volume, reviews, velocity
- Inventory (15%): Prefer in-stock products
- Business Rules (15%): Margins, promotions, merchandising
- You can adjust these weights via dashboard without touching code
- Different strategies for different customer segments:
| Customer Segment | Ranking Strategy |
|---|---|
| First-Time Buyers | Boost popular, high-review products |
| VIP/Loyalty Members | Boost high-margin items they tend to buy |
| Budget-Conscious | Boost products under $50 |
| Premium Shoppers | Boost luxury brands and premium tiers |
- Personalized Ranking. Tailor search results per user based on behavior: IF customer_has_viewed_brand = “Nike”AND customer_purchase_history = “athletic” THEN boost(Nike_products, weight = 1.3). Results for a “running shoe” search:
- User 1 (Nike fan): Nike shoes rank #1–3
- User 2 (Adidas fan): Adidas shoes rank #1–3
- Both still see relevant shoes overall, but their preferences are honored
- Typo Handling. Allow flexible typo tolerance. You decide how strict:
- Strict (0 typos allowed): Exact matches only
- Moderate (1–2 typos allowed): “Runnning shoe” finds “Running shoe”
- Permissive (3+ typos allowed): “Bleu chees” finds “Blue Cheese”
- Price Range Boosts. For price-sensitive queries, boost mid-range products: IF query = “budget” OR query = “affordable”THEN boost(products WHERE price < $50, weight = 1.4)
What about multi-language and international search? Can we handle global product catalogs?
If you sell globally, your product catalog probably has multiple languages, regional variations, and currency differences. A search query in French should return French-language results and handle French grammar/accents. A German customer searching for “Schuh” should get shoes. This is complex. We support 50+ languages natively.
Does Quarticon offer Search Engine for traditional commerce?
Yes. In traditional commerce, where the frontend and the backend (inventory, payments, order processing) are tightly integrated into a single, monolithic system Quarticon offers its Search Engine as regular JS based implementation, mixed JS/API (semi-API) implementation and pure API implementation.
